My wife and I were unable to make our Swan Quarter-Ocracoke ferry ride due to bad weather shutting down the ferries for the weekend. So, we stayed at Granny's Farmhouse B&B. Our experience there was exceptional. We have never experienced a better supplied B&B. Everything we needed for a perfect stay had been provided. The room itself was beautiful. The bed was comfortable. The common area allowed us to enjoy reading in incredibly comfortable reclining chairs, and the following morning prepare coffee and a variety of provided microwaveable meals for a wonderful breakfast. There were rocking chairs on the front porch which we would have loved to put to use except for the presence of gale force winds!
The area is a beautiful part of eastern North Carolina. We ate our dinner at Harris Steakhouse in Fairfield, NC. This was our first time traveling across Lake Mattamuskeet---a really beautiful 15 minute drive from the B&B. It is only a 6 minute drive to the ferry landing. We highly recommend this B&B. Paula was wonderful to work with. She was highly attentive to our needs.

Rooms were booked up in Swan Quarter and I got a generous referral to Paula at Granny’s farmhouse by a nearby B&B. I stayed overnight to beat some bad weather and to be a few minutes, rather than 4 hours from the ferry. The renovation is “modern farmhouse”, the house is very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The local deli is closed on Sunday mornings and there are no nearby restaurants, so there is a fridge if you want to bring in food. I had my own yogurt, so I used the Keurig and grabbed a granola bar on my way out the door. There are 3 bedrooms, and if you’re only using 1 or 2, there could be an unrelated person or two in the house at the same time…but we were all respectful of space and privacy. That’s the nature of a B&B, so I was fine with it for my one night stay. I’d recommend Granny’s.

I have stayed in Granny’s farmhouse often since the Spencers renovated and opened the B&B in 2022. The family has done such a tremendous job making this place special again, and guests couldn’t ask for more when traveling to Hyde County.
Location is ideal. Granny’s is five minutes to Swanquarter and the NCDOT ferry dock. There are also NC Wildlife Resources Commission boat ramps within five minutes in either direction. In fifteen minutes you can be watching birds and other game at Lake Mattamuskeet or at the Swanquarter National Wildlife Refuge.
The house itself is incredibly well appointed and comfortable, in addition to being extremely clean. Thoughtful furnishings & decorations make you feel at home. There are always plenty of snacks and breakfast items awaiting visitors.
To top of off, the Spencers are the most welcoming and hospitable hosts!
Granny’s Farmhouse is at the top of my list for overnight accommodations on the Hyde Co. mainland.
